Sharing a Philatelic Legacy
The late Jim MacDougall’s display History of Canada in Postage Stamps was presented to the October meeting of the Toronto Stamp Club by his grandson Zakir Zaidi, aided by his grandmother Margaret Ashford-MacDougall. After viewing a very comprehensive display and a knowledgeable interpretation by Zakir, Club President Roger Eggleton presented Zakir with a copy of The Group of Seven and Tom Thomson by David Silcox as a memento of the occasion.
New Trophy Honours Warren J. Oliver
The Toronto Stamp Club has introduced a new annual award: the Warren J. Oliver Perpetual Trophy, presented for the best display of the club year.
Named in honour of the Club’s long-serving former President, Warren J. Oliver — who passed away in September 2024 at the age of 87 — the trophy recognises both excellence in philately and Warren’s lasting contribution to the Club.
Warren’s children, Anthony Oliver and Samantha (Sam) Sherriff, were guests at the Club’s May 2025 meeting and presented the trophy. They spoke warmly of his love for Australian colonial stamps and the joy it brought him.
This new trophy replaces the John D. Huntley Perpetual Trophy, which was retired in 2024 after 21 presentations. The Warren J. Oliver Trophy will now carry that tradition forward for years to come.
